Your Well Pump May Need a Repair If You Notice:

• Low water pressure. One of the first signs of well pump failure is if there’s a noticeable decrease in water pressure or reduced water flow. In general, modern well pumps are as efficient and pressurized as municipal plumbing. So if well water pressure seems to be weaker than normal, your pump is one of the first places to look.
• Short Cycling. Not only does short cycling mean there is a loss of air pressure in the pressure tank, but if left unchecked, the physical stress of short cycling will cause damage to the well pump itself. Short cycling means your pump turns off, but then on again in a much shorter-than-expected period of time.
• No water flow at all. For most well pump owners, problems with their pump will become evident long before there’s a total stoppage in water. If there’s an abrupt interruption to water flow, that is usually an indicator of an electrical component failing in the water pump system.

Common Sources of Well Pump Problems:

• Faulty Control Panel. Most modern well pump systems include a convenient pressure control unit that allows the homeowner to adjust the flow of the water into the home. Working as a secondary unit to the main supply pump, the water pump pressure control unit is often found in the home, where the water enters the house.
• Clogs. A common cause of clogs to your well pump system is mineral build up. Because well water filters through the ground, well pumps collect minerals carries by water in the saturation process. Over time, the build-up can be enough to cause clogs that affect water pressure or total blockages.
• External water draws. While not a cause of failure, increased water use means a greater demand than certain well pumps can keep up with. If there’s been a change to your water needs, a more robust pump system may be needed.
